Adding Additional Sets

Sets are a great way to increase the volume of an exercise without sacrificing reps or weight. A set is the given amount of times you perform repetitions.

For example 3 sets of 5 repetitions means you will perform 15 total reps divided into 3 different sets.

Adding additional sets to an exercise will allow you to focus on a manageable weight if you are unable to add additional reps or weight to the exercise.

Technique #1 Additional Sets

Instead of doing 3 sets of 5 reps perform 4 sets of 5 reps.

Bench Press 100lbs x 3 x 5

Change to Bench Press 100lbs x 4 x 5

Technique #2 Split Sets

Bench Press 100bs x 3 x 5

And add Bench Press 65lbs x 3 x 10

Take note that if you are adding sets the intensity principal still applies so your weight must remain 65% or more of your training max.
